Punjab’s 17-year-old shooting prodigy Arjun Cheema is the latest shining product of the sport’s rising popularity in India after Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Chaudhary, Anish Bhanwala, Elavenil Valarivan, and Sidhu twins Vijayveer and Udhayveer.
After winning the gold medal in the men’s 10-metre air pistol event of the recent Khelo India Youth Games, the student of Om Prakash Bansal Modern School, Mandi Gobindgarh, now wants ticket to 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Asked if the size of competition in Indian shooting daunted him, Arjun told TOI: “It’s a healthy competition and I always compete with self. Looking at the big pool of promising Indian shooters only makes you mentally tougher and hungrier for success.”
