Important notice from Orion National Air Rifle League…
After a lot of time considering our options, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 National Air Rifle League season. Alternatively, we’ll be offering a series of bi-weekly matches to teams that are able to and would like to participate!
As league administrators, we have a duty to ensure an equal playing field for all teams. Given the anticipated disruption caused by COVID-19, this won’t be possible. Some schools might not open at all, open partially, be all virtual, and cancelling extracurricular activities. Even if we ran the league, we will have an unusual number of teams drop out, have schedule changes, or cancel games, all of which is going to make the league less feasible – particularly scheduling games.
Now that we’ve presented the problem, let’s get focused on the solution – bi-weekly virtual matches! Our Virtual Match technology will let teams from across the country compete. As teams’ situations change, they can choose whether to participate on a match-by-match basis. Participating in these matches will be free of charge, although teams will have the opportunity to purchase participation awards for competing athletes. The bi-weekly matches are our attempt to give teams and athletes who want to compete an opportunity to do so. With many shoulder-to-shoulder competitions cancelled or rescheduled, shooting virtual matches may be the best opportunity for many teams!
The format of the bi-weekly matches will be the same as the National Air Rifle League. Sporter teams can participate in 3×10 matches, and Precision teams can participate in 40 shot standing.
We’re still working out all of the details for these matches, so we’ll be in touch again soon. A decision on the Spring leagues, the National Air Rifle New Shooter, and the National Air Pistol Leagues has not been made. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office at 703-596-0099 if you have any questions.
